Ninian's Mindful Moments - Mother's Day | The story of the Hands

My friend, today is Mother's Day. I want to talk with you about my mother's hands.

When I was young, I never understood them — why they were always so busy, why they couldn't be as soft as a child's. All I knew was that when those hands held mine crossing the street, they felt firm and warm.

As I grew older, I slowly began to read their story.

They might have typed through countless late nights in an office, picked up different vegetables at the market, fitting school uniform on a sewing machine, or gently tucked me in on those restless nights. They did so many things — some I saw, most I didn't.

Once, I casually mentioned I missed her cooking. The next day, that familiar smell filled the house. I took a bite, looked up to say how good it was — and saw my mother secretly rubbing her wrist. In that moment I understood: those hands weren't made of iron. They got tired too. They just never complained.

Now, every time I go home, I still reach for her hands firmly. I want to tell her, “Mom, you held my hand as I grew up. Now it's my turn to hold yours.”

Those hands once carried my whole world. Today, let me carry yours.
